Getting Started

To learn to drive you must be aged 17 or over and meet the minimum eyesight requirement (with glasses if required) of reading a number plate from 20.5 metres/67 feet (old style number plate) 20 metres (new style number plate). You must also hold a Provisional Licence.

If you do not currently have a Provisional Licence you can apply for one online at the DVLA Website if you have an up to date photo passport -www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring.  Alternatively you can obtain form D1 from your local post office or download from the DVLA website. You will have to wait for your new licence to arrive before driving. This generally takes about three weeks from the time that the DVLA receives your application.
