Following your introductory lesson. We should be able
to give you a rough idea of how many hours tuition you are likely to require to
meet the standard required to take your test.
Generally this is approximately 25 to 40 hours.
Please note - we will not take you to test until we are satisfied that
you have the knowledge and the ability to pass the test.
During your lessons you will be taught all the skills required and will
be given lots of opportunities to practice.
Before you can apply for your practical test, you will need to pass your
theory test.
The Theory TestYou can take the theory test prior to starting learning to
drive. You can book your theory and
practical tests online at
www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring.
However you will learn much of the information required during your
driving lessons. There are many good
books and CD Roms available to help you and it is important that you obtain a
copy of, and study ‘The Highway Code’ .
Practice tests are readily available.
The Theory Test is made up of 2 parts; the the multiple choice
part and the hazard perception part.
You need to pass both parts on the same occasion to pass the theory test.
For the multiple choice part, using a touch screen computer you will be
asked 50 questions in 57 minutes. You will need to answer 43 questions
correctly to pass. The hazard
perception part records your responses through the use of a computer mouse
button. You will be shown a series
of 14 video clips which feature every day road scenes.
In each clip you will need to ‘click’ on developing hazards.
The pass mark is 44 out of 75.
